The creative act is inherently an act of courage. - Erwin McManus
I'm graduating from undergrad in 2 weeks. My friends and I decorated our black caps the other day. There were so many things I wanted to write on mine: Wild Ones; Next Stop: Syracuse; Peace-Up, Shmilligan; Ahm a jernerlerst; etc. But, I ended up with a really simple design:
"Sometimes, all it takes is 20 seconds of insane courage and I promise you something good will come out of it." - We Bought a Zoo
This was one of my favorite sayings sophomore year. I would make some really abrupt decisions off of this quote, both good and bad. My friends know the stories. Now, I think of '20 seconds' as my chance to do big things – to take leaps of big faith with small amounts of courage.
Ironically, my cap is subtly all about being courageous too...but in reality, I was hesitant to decorate my cap because I didn't want to mess it up. I'm not crafty, guys.
The moral of this story is that I'm about to go full speed ahead into a life of creativity. In two months, I will become a writer in New York. Firstly, you have to be courageous to move to New York. Secondly, you have to be courageous to become a writer. But, THIS IS MY LIFE!
So, here we go! I want to be courageous in my work, every day for the rest of my life. Now is my chance to show you how.
